longwood school district, Sachem or Middle country scho... - 3/11/2008 11:37:47 AM

Hi,

I'm moving in LI and looking at middle country, Sachem or longwood schooldistrict. I have 2 boys 7yrs and 9yrs. Was wondering if you know which is better and which to avoid. Please let me know why.  Realtors say what you want to hear so I have no help and don't want to get into anything that I will regret later. Thanks, I really appreciate any help possible.

Steer clear of Longwood. Forget it, it is terrible.  Middle Country is fine, I think, but not excellent.  I  would definitely go for Sachem.  I did my student observations there and it is a decent high school.

Hello - can someone give me the real scoop on the Middle Country district?  Good or no?  I may move to the area, my kids would be going to Eugene Auer, then Dawnwood, then Centereach High School.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

I graduated thru middle country my husband thru sachem both very good.  We came back to middle country over sachem for size ofsome programs we moved here when my sons were n/b and 2 didnt know ifthey would like sports but thought mc would give them a better chance of making the team (sachem is known for taking only the "elite") my boys are no superstars but they feel like they are from their school coaches in mc I also think that mc offers young and excited teachers not the highest paid but the most in love with their students and jobs.  Wouldnt change a thing.  ps DONT GO TO LONGWOOD..GANGS DRUGS POOR GRADES

My husband and I are also looking for houses in the same neighborhood.  Middle Country is fine, I have a friend who has relatives and friends who live in the area and they are very happy.  Avoid Longwood, not a good district, Sachem is the best out of the the three.  We are actually concentrating on Middle Country, the school district is ok, and the housing prices are much more affordable.  Much more for your money and beautiful neighborhoods.

Stay clear of Longwood! Even when we bought our home 28 yrs ago it was not good. We had known a teacher in the school district who's home was on the border of Longwood & Middle Country, he was thankful his daughter went to Middle Country.  My children both graduated from Newfield in Middle Country. One is a Chiropractor and one is a teacher! They were well prepared for college. I hear that Newfield's student's behaviors have changed since my children have graduated. My child did student teaching in a Sachem elementary school....she loved it!  Everyone who has children in Sachem that we know...has no gripes. Hope this helps.

I say Longwood, I currently go there and I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. I love it there and I think that a lot of people just see the bad and don't see the good. I'm going to be a lawyer. I am in AP classes as well as honors classes. A lot of the kids who do drugs don't get the love they need at home. You seem like you love your kids enough to even just embrace family bonds and make sure they get the right care. Well, even try to encourage them to enter after school sports and stuff where they'll make great friends.
