Any school districts that hire Occupational Therapists directly please contact me ASAP...I am seeking employment within Nassau or Western Suffolk County for this September...I would rather work for the district directly, however if I am not contact ASAP I will be taking a contract position. Upon completing a Level Two Fieldwork affiliation at Variety Child Learning Center (a school for children with Autism and those with special needs), I have come to appreciate the complexity and rewards of working as part of an educational team. I feel that the educational model of service delivery is perfect for me due to my opportunities working with children in a variety of settings. I have worked with children in both the school system and hospital settings who display an assortment of diagnoses (Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Learning Disabilities, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Mental Retardation, among others) and feel strongly that it is my calling in life to enable these children to obtain the necessary skills to lead a meaningful and functional life. My interest in pediatrics is so strong that I elected to take the following continuing education courses prior to my completing fieldwork: Handwriting Without Tears, Recognizing & Helping Children with Sensory Processing Disorders, and The Pediatric Primer. The knowledge of diagnoses, treatment interventions, and evaluation skills that I have gained from attending these courses will add to my expertise and treatment of Long Island school children. I am excited to bring my varied life experience to this new transition, and feel that I have an advantage with the broad outlook and developed interpersonal skills that come with previous experiences. I am fortunate also to possess the enthusiasm of a new practitioner of Occupational Therapy. I believe you will find me to be a solid and motivated team member, with the energy and inspiration to support the students and their educational teams.
