I am a dual certified SS ed and elementary ed teacher seeking a permanent position teaching SS on Long Island. I have an extensive background in all areas of history and have an enthusiasm for teaching that engages my students . I prefer to teach ancient history which in NY state is taught in 6th grade curriculum and is why I chose to get my masters in elementary ed. I was fortunate enough to attend Long Island University CW Post campus and studied under renowned Egyptologist Dr Bob Brier who has written many books on Egypt and has done many TLC and Discovery Channel specials on the Egypt, which all included CW Post students (unfortunately I was not enrolled then); including one where he mummified a body in the ancient way. I also had other great Phd's of History and Philosophy on the subjects of Ancient Greece, and Rome one who co-authored Dr Bob Briers Books and just received an award this year for his service to the University for teaching ther for 40 years! I have also taken courses with a wonderful Professor who got her PhD from Oxford University! I studied Pre WWII (Weimar) and WWII Germany with her and was in a tutorial with her on a subject pertaining to this Weimar Germany. It was interesting to get the other side of the issues of WWII since she was from Germany and her mother actually knew Hitler's secretary! She was born and raised in Dresden, a town destroyed by the British during WWII. I was also lucky enough to be instructed by a professor who obtained was PhD at Harvard, his class was dedicated to the US after the Vietnam war, a subject rarely covered in the curriculum in high school due to the time restraint. Another great subject I studied was the Civil War and Reconstruction with a great Professor. This is just some of the history I studied while at CW Post. As you can see I have a broad spectrum of classes and interests. As a history major and buff, whenever I walk through th bookstore to buy books when I was enrolled in my Masters program which was Elementary ed, I would check out what the history department was selling, if ther was a book I never read, or thought looked interesting, I bought it. So my library is filled with many books on subjects that although I haven't taken classes on I was interested in, and although I haven't read them all yet.. I plan to.
