Planning to buy a house on the border of 2 school distr... - 6/3/2008 8:46:04 AM

I have liked a house which is on the border of 2 school districts.
The house is in Syosset but only 1 street across is Hicksville, so for now my school district will be Syosset - Excellent School district but across the street is Hicksville school ditrict - one of the not so desirable ones.
My question is that at any point of time(in future), can the border lines of the cities change so that my kids may have to go to Hicksville School district and if that happens even the value of my house might go down..
I would deeply appreciate everybody's advise. Or if u have a Nassau County or Long Island contact no. where I can confirm this from.

Thanks in advance..
regards.

Hello,

My sisters and brother grew up in Uniondale.  I'm 40yrs old now, but this happened to my family growing up.  My older sister and brother went to Lawrence Road Jr High School.  They changed the boarder lines and my sisters and I were changed to Turtle Hook Jr. High School.  From my experience now, I believe it is possible for the value of your home to drop should it fall within the border lines of an undersireable school district.

There is no way to verify whether or not a district will change their zoning.  If you have children and are worried about their education, I would keep looking.  If you do not have children in elementary, Jr High, or High School, and you're only worried about the value of the house, I would still keep looking.
