Mixed Neighborhoods - 6/20/2006 9:46:46 PM

My husband and I are interested in moving to a neighborhood in Nassau County.  We are leaving from a neighborhood that is fairly mixed with all groups of people.  Ideally, we would like to continue to live in a neighborhood that has a healthy mix of people.  Can anyone recommend an area that is not segregated to any one race and has a good school district?

I am a resident of Malverne and active in community and one of it's school districts.  There is a group of residents who formed a non profit to get the word out about what an excellent school district we have in Malverne.  Malverne is a wonderful place to live and raise a family.  We are centrally located, have beautiful homes, a tight community and all the benefits of living in a village.  If you are interested in learning about the schools or touring them I would like to help.

Unfortunately, many top school district are not very diverse. Some school district that are very good (Top in US) are Great Neck, Manhasset, East Williston, Jericho.

If you have to school district with diverse community, it will become difficult to be able to conform to the expectations of the entire group, but a community that is "segregated" will allow the district to focus its needs on a particular group, usually one that is academically competitive.

My children attend the Malverne public schools.  While Malverne is not a racially diverse neighborhood it's schools are.  My daughter has made friends with white and black children as well as Indian, Chinese, Guatamalan and Latin American children and I wouldn't have it any other way.  I consider a diverse classroom an asset to my childs future and ability to grow and prosper in the real world.  The quality of her education and enrichment is better than I expected.

i live in the new hyde park area...we have a wonderful community, and, a really good school district. new hyde park is one of the areas in nassau county that has a number of different nationalities living in the area. at first being from a very italian area, i was not used to living here, but, i have to say, that i LOVE it here now. The schools are very good. There are four elementary schools, and, our high school...new hyde park memorial houses 7-12 grade. Different dismissal times.  New Hyde Park out of all the towns in Nassau, has a bit of a Queens feel, but, the lifestyle is not as congested. The homes are priced from high 500's to 700 or so, just like most areas here in Nassau. Good Luck with your search...and, to help you out...you can always check out....www.bestplacestolive.com

My realtor gave us this site, and, you will find a ton of useful and very helpful information on this site regarding school performance, groups that live in the district, and, so on....

Island Park
West Hempstead

AND DON'T HATE--I LIVE IN ONE AND GO TO SCHOOL IN THE OTHER--NOT WORTH IT. (sorry!)

look at Huntington - the village is great and offers a nice diversity of people.  I'd stay clear of Huntington Station though
