I have attended 2 school board meetings in the last month and can not believe that ony a hand full of people attend. These nine board members have the purse strings for our district and of the more than 49,000 people that live here only 10 to 20 people show up to see this board in action. I can't believe in this day when everything a school board does is under the microscope no one seems to care how these individuals decide how our children are educated and by whom. There must be a way to get our district and the districts on Long Island to wake up and see how these people really work.
I have received no additional information from attending these meeting as all "Personnel Business" is dealt with in secret meetings. Again, these nine people control the destiny our over 11,000 students.
There must be some way to get the message out as it seems to be a secret as to what exactly these people do for the community. The Board President is a teacher and that should speak for itself. I believe the biggest item she spoke about was not being allowed to have the "District" pay food at the Board meeting.
One individual at the last meeting requested some information regarding his grandson and that question was not responded to, for whatever the reason. I really think these folks are out of touch with our community.
