Ok...I currently reside in LI and unbeknownst to me when I moved to Westbury, the schools are just barely above NYC school performance. Not to mention the kids are not exactly the best apples in the bunch. I suffered through 2 years of elementary school with my daughter. Now, I am looking to move b/c my daughter is going to middle school. However, as I started to look in all of the good schools in the good neighborhoods, I noticed that the population of African Americans at most of these public schools were <1%. This was astonishing and disturbing to me. I want a good education for my kids, but also cultural diversity for me is extremely important. The US population is not <1% and that is not an accurate picture of the world. I was hoping that someone could recommend a high performing school in Nassau County with a good school mix. PLEASE KEEP ALL RACIST/IGNORANT COMMENTS TO YOURSELVES. This is a very serious post and I am looking for some guidance.

Do you want cultural or racial diversity? You indicated "good" districts having <1% black which would be racial inequity, not cultural. Some people view good by the caliber of programs, others by the skin tone of the residents. One thing that is true, though, is that people tend to live with people who have things in common with them. Doctors and lawyers tend to live in the same areas, old world Italian families (I grew up with many such families) tend to live in another specific enclave. Cops and firemen/women usually stay in blue collar neighborhoods. Even looking into Queens, there are many towns which have a higher population of Korean families, or Indian families. How far are you willing to move? You might consider the Huntington School District, which is diverse both culturally and racially with a broad mix of students from various socio-economic backgrounds. There's plenty of different housing stock, from starters to high-end, too, and the village is a great place to pass the time.

Hmm... in my neighborhood we have a mix of Catholic (a mix of Irish, German, Polish and Italian) Protestant and Jewish families. Predominantly "white" with an increasing number of Hispanics, 2 African-American families that I know of and one Asian family. Mix of blue collar and white collar. Not everyone who lives in a neighborhood is of the same socioeconomic, cultural or religious background. It was the same way in my neighborhood growing up. I can't stand stereotypes.

It sounds like you're saying that Italians are not doctors or lawyers. I don't think you meant it that way, but it comes across as snobby.

The Malverne School District embraces diversity and excellent academic performance. I live in Malverne and my son just started Kindergarten. I love our school district.
