Does anyone know anything about the Longwood School District?  If so, please let me know what you think of it.  We are looking to move into that area.  I would appreciate any information you can provide me.  Thank you.

Gordon Heights is part of that district. My Uncle is selling a great home in that area that I would love to buy, but I don't want that district for my kids.

spend 15 minutes in Longwood's Walmart. Most of the young families moved out. Many families live in denial.  The academic statistics are miserable.

I did my student teaching at Longwood High School about four years ago. It was the worst teaching experience of my life. The elementary schools may be okay, but I would not send my children to the middle or high school, unless he/she is a very strong student and can be in all Honors level classes. The classes are very difficult to control in Longwood, and the administrators are not visible. The students are very rude in the hallways, and the police are often called for fights.  Choose another district if at all possible.

Longwood used to one of the better schools out here, but now it's considered the worst.  The test scores are very low and so is the graduation rate.  The taxes are out of control and the district is not worth a dime.  Ridge Elm is the best out of all the Elm schools.  But after that it goes down hill.  I lived here all my life and graduated from Longwood.  I want to get my family out of here before they get up to the junior high.  Even though I heard that the middle school is no better.  I would stay out of the district unless you can afford private school.

I totally disagree with all of your negative comments regarding Longwood.  I have two children attending Longwood schools, one in the high school and one in the junior high.  They went to West Middle Island Elementary and the Middle school.  We have had many positive experiences in each school.  Of course there have been minor problems along the way, but that would be true in any district.  My son has been in the accelerated program and both participate in sports and band.  There are many great oportunities in Longwood.  The key to a successful school career for any child is for the parents to be involved and aware of what your children are doing!

I wanted to leave the district before my son was in the middle school however we didn't sell our house until the end of his first year in middle school and boy has it been a nightmare. His attitude completely changed the teachers don't have any of the students under control. The academics were better than Three Village but socially it's horrific. I think a better social climate for children is much more important, all the other academic filler stuff a parent can do. Principal doesn't get back to you. It's just a huge mess!!!!!!!!
