Can anyone direct me to where I need to be looking to become a teacher in Nassau County? I have my BA and MA, but not in education. My first thought was to just attend night school to get a degree, but I know of other people that are currently teaching while attending night school. Any help is greatly appreciated!

First of all, you need to be prepared for a lot. Long Island Students, at least in Queens and Nassau, are...well...different. Fights happen if security isn't tight, gangs are made everyday, and you need to have some juevos to work in long island. Take it from a LI HS Senior

You will need to be certified. Check out the Office of Teaching Initiatives to find out about alternative certification procedures. Be prepared to wait a long time for a teaching job on LI. It's highly political, and you have to know someone to even get an interview ( most of the time). Have you considered NYC schools?

Have a relative on the school board or the teacher's union. If not, kiss their asses. You can volunteer to call homeowners on election day, or hand out fliers for candidates who are intent on bilking taxpayers, while neglecting students. Try it and see.
