Help? skip a grade question.... - 8/26/2007 7:17:00 PM

I recently moved from down South ( Florida). My son was placed back a year in 4th grade when we moved to a private school while we resided in Florida. He should be going into 7th grade in September based on his age. The local district have him slated to go into fifth grade where he is a full two years older then the others. I feel strongly that he should be in the 6th grade this year and because of the huge age difference. He seems to be getting turned off to the idea of attending school altogether. He is not a great student but we'll get him a tutor and I know he'll be able to handle 6th grade work. What are my rights as a parent , can I push for him to attend 6thgrade?
Thank you in advance
