Hello everyone, my name is JD.
I work for a online English Tutoring site called www.teacherjames.com and we're doing something a little different in the online English Tutoring space. While Teacherjames.com does most of the typical private online E-Learning tutoring, I'm working on launching a new division called "Teacherjames Professionals".
Basically, our belief is that if you are a substitute teacher, then you have the best combination of Teaching Skills and also most likely some other education background or training (like nursing, engineering, law, etc). Substitute teachers are wide and varied in where they come from and where they want to go.
With Teacherjames.com Professionals, you can make some good part-time money and also meet associates and people from China and Taiwan.
Here's the idea:
1. You're a substitute teacher with a Professional background (say nursing).
2. We work with you to create a series of 15-20 Pre-Recorded Courses on Nursing which are streamed to our students online 24/7. The topic for your course could be:
"Simple English for Nurses and Hospital Staff"
This course covers simple vocabulary that Asian hospitals and clinics need to teach their hospital staff. Everything is pre-recorded but you assign homework. The student or staff member has the option to do this homework, but they CAN get feedback from you on your course (different from CDs and DVDs).
We (Teacherjames Professionals) will market your recorded course and target Asian hospitals and clinics to buy it. Then we split the profits. Once you record this course once, then you don't ever have to do it again.
THIS IS STAGE ONE...which we say is Passive Income.
STAGE TWO:
Say a hospital or a clinic watches your course and wants to hire you as their weekly teacher for helping their hospital staff. You can imagine how in demand your Nursing English skills might be to people in China (most of the "English Teachers" overseas or abroad don't happen to have a background in Nursing). Now, you can teach this clinic online using the regular Teacherjames.com online tutoring interfaces. We would set up the equipment for the clinic and all you need is a computer, internet connection, and webcam.
Now, you are making residual money (from your recordings) and part time money (sometimes up to $30US-$50US an hour for very specialized English) and then you are meeting some new associates from around the world.
If you have a background in something like International Finance or Law, then this might be even better for you.
Our idea is to find good teachers (subs) with Professional Backgrounds to match them with Asian companies in their field. We start with these recordings that we can show companies what the teacher is like, what a course would be like, and then the teacher can also make money off the recordings.
Then, our staff in Asia (based in Taipei and offices in Bejing) will match up teachers and companies.
This is a pretty new idea in this eLearning / Corporate space, and I'm really excited about it.
