I will be relocating to Long Island this coming December. I have a daughter who is a junior and will be attending Centereach High School in January. Can anyone tell me a little bit about the school? I am very concern about my daughter's education.

I used to go there last year, and to be completely honest I would say it is not one of the better schools on the island. The education part is ok, but when it comes to things like behavior and drugs, it is not the kind of school you want to send your daughter to.

Dear future resident:

I have had four children go though this school district and can tell you this, unless your child or children are very bright, find a private school to put them in. This district is of, by and for only those kids that either have a parent on the school board, PTA or are very bright. My daughter was in special education for 12 years and upon entering her senior year the principle of the Centereach High School, Ms Abrams had the nerve to tell me that my daughter was not ready to graduate and was retarded. Draw your own conclusions. The Board of Education is presided over by a teacher who runs it as if there is no one to answer to. What a way to ran a school district. I have tried numerous times to contact the Superindent, in meetings all day no return call. The teachers are in another world. The drug problem is well known to everyone but the teachers, principle and School Board.

I wish you the best of luck moving into to this school district.

Hey,

I currently go to Centereach High School. I just moved here a year ago and i started as a freshman. I am now in my sophmore year and i think it's a great school. Like every school out there you are going to find drugs and other problems. As long as your daughter stays out of it, and goes to school to learn she will have no problem. I personally think it's a great school and one of the better ones.

Do yourself a favor a go see the school in session. Do not make the same mistake many make by making your decision based on the hearsay of a few bad experiences. There is no such thing as a school that can please all parents all the time. It doesn't exist. Go see the school. Keep your eyes and ears open and bring in some tough questions. Then make the decision as to whether that school is the right fit for your family.

Yo dat skool is a cracker town hahahah. no nigggas or spansih peeple mayb like 1 black kid and 2 spanish kids. ther mad coke heads here 2 u dont eva wunna live in centerreach unless u a coke head ahaha.

I agree, put them in private school or look for a better district because Centereach High sucks.
I have two sons, and do you believe that my 9th grader made a minor mistake( which coaches knew), and explained his behavior was unacceptable. NOT A BIG DEAL. NEXT THING I KNOW
THESE MORON ADMINISTRATORS ARE SUSPENDING HIM AND KEEPING HIM OUT OF SPORTS FOR THE YEAR, DO WE PAY TO EDUCATE THESE IDIOTSW OR WHAT??ANYWAY, NOTHING MY LAWYER CAN NOT HANDLE.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY NEWFIELD/CENTEREACH BASKETBALL GAMES ARE AY ST. JOE'S, BECAUSE LAST YEAR AT NEWFIELD I GOT ATTCKED IN THE STANDS AND PUNCHED IN THE FACE WHILE TRYHING TO WATCH A GAME.
THIS DISTRICT IS LOWLOWLOW CLASS AND SO ARE MOST OF THE ADMINISTRATORS, WHICH ARE OVERPAYED, I WILL NOW MAKE IT MY MISSION TO GET RID OD THEM....

yAH, DO NOT PUT YOUR KID IN AN OVERCROWDED SCHOOL WHERE THE TEACHERS ARE OVERPAID. AND LAZY. AND THE ADMINISTRATION stinks. go to sachem,pt. jefferson,hauppage, smithtown other schools, we are a low budget school with low budget admininstrators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am currently a student at centereach. It isint one of the nicest schools in long island but there are certainly worse schools. Yes the school does have some drug problems & behavior can be an issue, but in all honeslty it depends on your daughter. It is deffanitly possible to receive a good education and excell at this school. She just need to stay out of the crowds that are involved with those negative things, make good decisions, and use good judgment.

I'm curently a student at Centereach High School and although the school does have its problems there are a lot worse schools that you could send your daughter too. Are school does have drug problems and academic problmes but you will find those in every school that you go to. If your daughter stays out the bad things at this school there is nothing stopping her from getting an education and having a fun time at this school.

I love the parent who bemoans her poor son being disciplined. That is what is wrong with all public schools. Parents who use words like "sucks" to describe their school and who refuse to accept any responsibilty for their children's behaviors. They are the first to sue if their baby gets hurt by someone else's angel that also shouldn't be disciplined. Her experience reflects well on the administration and demonstrates their attempt to maintain control. I am not a teacher or administrator FYI.
