Budgets Fail Support Staff Needs Some Support as Well - 4/6/2006 2:09:26 AM

It amazes me how the Support Staff of our Schools are always given the least amount of consideration. I am not impartial to this issue and want that to be duly noted. Time after time I find that Administrators get their contracts passed first and foremost, and then the Teacher's and finally in the drip-down approach much like common-stock holder's at liquidation of their holding corporation(s) anything that may or may not be left will be forced upon us even if this does not allow them a fair shake at maintaining inflationary considerations. If budget cuts have to be made then let them be made in a manner that will not drive the lower-income makers off the Island. Such as allowing support staff a four day work week with more hours each day to accomodate their requirement of hours, and shutting the buildings down completely for the 3 days following (during the Summers) By shutting down the majority of electrical and A/C during the 3 days will surely save taxpayers a formidable amount of money, especially in light of the excess fuel surcharges now imposed by LIPA that represents on the average 57% of the actual (and increased price per) KWH usage. Do the math..you'll see I am right on. This will not affect the quality of education the students receive since it is over the Summer Months when school is not in session. Furthermore turning all the computers down EVERY night would make a significant impact if it was followed stringently. Saving jobs, cutting costs, and keeping the Long Island economy moving foward. If that does not cut the budgets enough then the percentage of contractual increases should be reduced across all borders....Administration, Teaching, and Support...1% of Administration, Teaching, and Support could definitely ensure that no one ends up unemployed. And Unemployment HAS TO BE PAID for as well YOU ARE NOW PAYING PEOPLE NOT TO WORK.....HOW IS THIS EFFICIENT OR EFFECTIVE?

I have a question for you.  On May 16th 2006 did you bother to vote on your school budget?  If you didn't (which I am 99% sure of) you have no right to complain about how much anybody gets paid.   You should learn how read and learn better manners while you are at it.

Kudos to you for suggesting common sense ideas.  But unfortunately the school administrators  wouldn't think of something like that.  Do you want to know why?  Because they are not paying for it.  They got their increases.  Did you? Did I? No, but now I am paying for their increase and LIPA's at home and at school.   I have a another idea that would save money for the tax payers, have the teachers pay for some of their insurance plans.

first off i do agree with your statements  but  let us remember that the william floyd schools are on a CO-Gen system  and generate their own electricity ....and what you suggest is fine since the system can sell back to LIPA any unused energy ...  and running right along with that is a sometimes mandated  sell back to lipa in the summer at @ [estimated] $6-7 thousand  dollars a day ..or  if  not sold back as required by lipa ...a penalty is in force i believe..
and YES  you are correct that the top enders get first and the support staff are struggling for their 4% or higher  increase, but  hey   the super got his right after the budget passed...[all 4% with no arguement ] and i really have not seen ANY movement on any sorta ctc talks as of this posting....and as some of the "support staff" [read anything lower on the food chain after the board of ed members] take their week deserved time off  or work their butts off getting the schools ready for another new year , I DO  believe that a 4% increase for them is way too low  a figure...   cost of living  demands @5-6% but  i dont think the BOE  will give back what they awarded thenselves ...the support staff is in our prayers and we /I  say  thanks ! for all the effort ...

How about a budget that passed, and a school district continues to treat dedicated, hard working employees like Garbage, and take away the tools needed to Do their Jobs,  The services to supply students with their needs...While they(interim employees) Line their own pockets with large sums of money...such as 1,000.00 per day..?

That's how Hauppauge School district operates.(In additon a surplus of 5 million was found)

This Year alone, they hired 2 interim employees at the tune of almost 1,000.00 per day..and their job is to Cut everything. They don't care about The kids, The employees, or what happens after they leave, with all of the destruction they caused.

Year after year, The board, and the superintendant hire friends, at unbelievable salaries...200,000 Plus, per year..while they scream "CUT".And they cut ,and fire Hard working employees...only to hire their buddies.(Make that" RETIRED buddies", who already get a pension...and now are making 200,000 a year..or 1,000.00 per day..WITH YOUR TAX DOLLARS.
While you pay for this..your children  get services cut...and staff gets fired.

Under the Last Superintendant...for several years it was HORRIBLE. He was the worst disaster Ever to work in Happauge.

This year, they have a Brand new Superintendant..we thought things would change.

It has not.

It's basically all about THEM..The Big Bucks, the 7,000.00 $$ the super gets for using her own car..on top of her enormous salary..and other perks.

It's all about the interim staff, having to Justify making 1,000.00 per day..byt cutting Other employee's jobs.

That's what it is about. It's not about The Kids, It's not about Quality of services..It's about how much money..these Fly by night temporary staff members can stuff in their bank accounts.

I'm Glad I no longer work in this district..But I feel Sorry for the Hard working Staff that still must wake up every single day sick to their stomach's, until they can find another job..or retire.

It is awful, And not fair. No one should have to work under these conditions. No One.
I often wonder if The Hauppauge residents are aware of what really is going on.

Just about every single department in Hauppauge School has been destroyed..and cut into nothing.
When You have employees that work for you for Years..and years..you should respect them...take care of them..they work hard.. very, very hard.

Not treat them like Trash.
Something needs to be done about this practice...it's seems very common in many schools. The Hiring of interim employees ,at the expense of dedicated, long term emloyees. It's Wrong.

Isn't anyone concerned (including the teacher and administrators) that if our taxes continue to go up they will be out of a job.  Companies are leaving LI because it is too expensive to do business here.  Most employees on Long Island are only averaging a 3% salary increase.  I hear more and more of my co-worker saying how they want to leave Long Island because it is too expensive to live here.  I work with senior level engineers who have advanced degrees who do not make as much as teachers do.  Teachers should not be on the same pay scale as engineers.  They are the ONLY profession that has the entire summer off, winter breaks, spring break etc.... They don't have to spend $5-6K a year to put their children in summer camp / programs.  Adminstrator also need to be more realistic.  Why do they make so much more than other non-profit agencies administrators ?   I love Long Island, the schools, the community but am sick of the taxes.

We all talk about school district taxes, the wages paid, the perks, the waste and outright embezelment and fraud. But the taxes keep going up.
You are being bled to death by unfunded Federal and State Mandates, and only talking about it, Teachers and Administrators salaries and perks are bankrupting the citizenry. Lifetime, fully paid family health care plans, life insurance all paid by the taxpayer.
ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS, MY FELLOW CITIZENS OF LONG ISLAND , THE TIME HAS COME FOR AN INSURRUCTUION (A REVOLT).
Our forefathers took on the British, its time we took on these weasels who claim to be our friends and neighbors. THE BLEEDING HAS TO STOP NOW.
