Bullying is happening more and more in William Floyd School District and it seems that the administration is doing nothing about it. The same kids are bullying others and just getting a slap on the wrist. How many times can you give a child detention, and will that child take it seriously enough to stop the dangerous behavior. The parents of the bullys are not doing anything to teach their children right from wrong and as a parent I am disgusted, with the parents as well as the children. Where are the teachers when this is happening in the classrooms and the lunch room? May be the teachers and staff should be more involved or should we let another "Columbine" happen?

The administrators of William Floyd School District are far to busy stealing than to worry about the kids.

Bully's are really kids that are having major problems at home and take out their aggression on others to make them feel "big" etc.. They really feel small inside and then lash out on innocent people. It's a shame this is all going on. I use to go to Bellport Middle School and had that problem. If you just looked at someone, they wanted to beat you up. I'll never forget a girl stole my pocketbook that was my birthday gift. She wrote all over it before I finally got it back by telling the principal & him getting a teacher to get it. You should schedule a meeting with the principal regarding this issue and/or try to arrange a Police Officer or other speaker to come in and discuss options or refer counseling for those who are doing the bullying. Children should not be worrying about being bullied when they go to a place of learning. No one should be afraid to go to school. Maybe having 2 Police Officers in the school would help. They do that here in New York City. Kids can be very mean and cruel sometimes. My mother who taught in Bellport High School had many problems with kids when she use to teach in Bellport. She had to be like a cop and report kids smoking marijuana! Kid's might not like the idea of having cops around the school, but they will definitely not have a hard time learning anymore! Respectfully & Sincerely, Victoria M. Stong/Humanitarian & Civil Rights & Community Activist-Bellport, N.Y. & then New York City

I am having the same problem in Middle Country in the elementary schools. It is absurd that after all the bullying when a child finally defends himself that he also receives detention! There is no Code of Conduct being upheld. Zero tolerance does not exist. In fact this dangerous behavior is not being acknowledge and when the bullying escalates...as it usually does it is too late! I cannot believe that a childs behavioral problems and history does not go in his/her chart to warn the the innocent, they rather just pass it on and hope that someone else will deal with it. If these bullies really are victims too, then the and lack of discipline is a huge injustice to them as well. Somebody really needs to step to the plate and help us all.

A school really doesn't have much control! They do what they can under NY state law. A school is not a parent, but rather an educator. Parents need to be parents and teach children right from wrong!

Your not alone! I am in the deer park school district and the bullying starts in kindergarten. My son's afternoon school bus is rampent with it. Since september according to the school code of conduct my son has been sexually harrassed by another kindergartener, bit, spit on, a parent of one of the offenders has entered the bus and directed comments to my son, he has been punched in the face and the latest incident occured yesterday when a girl punched him in the face. I spoke with the principal who advised me the child has impulse problems. No one in the board of ed seems to care! so much for zero tolerence. I hate to see these kids when the do get to the high school level what type of person they will be without intervention. Sincerely, Fed Up In Deer Park

Having graduated from William Floyd in the early 90's I bear witness to the HUGE problem of bullying. You can blame the teachers and principals and to a degree they are at fault, however; the true fault is to be pinned on the parents AND the children......hell our society in general. There is no more dicipline in the home let alone in the schools. The hatefull souls of our youth is disgusting. children are little demons. They are not afraid to lash out at adults, let alone their peers. And why not? There are no consequences for the actions. Not until they end up on a police blotter and then its the officers fault for picking on them. This world sucks. I have a 2 year old and I am dreading his first day of school....how sad is that......Oh and there is no fixing this... not until the police are in the schools full time......and not one.......but five to ten or whatever it takes...

I as a Parent of 3 children that attend some level of William Floyd .. am sick and tired of my kids being picked on. I did something wrong ... I taught my children manners, to walk away from trouble....WRONG!!!! Instead I should have taught them to kick ass .. to do whatever is necessary for them to be safe. Security, Teachers, etc do nothing about the situation. Telling the kid to stop is going to do nothing at all. What should be done is Suspend the child who is causing the trouble .. one that is always in trouble .. one that bad mouths all the teachers all the time. Give them enough time off from school where it becomes an inconvience for the parents. HaHaHa most of those parents don't work anyways. I think more stern rules should be put into effect and for them to follow through. Hawkins ... instead of worrying about all the money you are stealing from us. Your first priority should have always been to make sure your distict is run the proper way. I am so happy they finally nailed your ass too!!!

I am having the same problem in Hauppauge elementary,Middle, and High school. It is absurd that after all the bullying when a child finally defends himself that he receives detention! There is no Code of Conduct being upheld for the innocent victim who is intellegent, hard working, and motivated to learn. Zero tolerance only exist to defend the bullier. In fact this dangerous behavior is not being acknowledge and when the bullying escalates...as it usually does it is too late! The innocent finally exploded and hurt the bullier and in the interim the school administration treats the innocent like a criminal, treat the victim as if he has a mental distress, and immediateltly ask to put your honor student in some kind of program to learn how to behave around bullies. Well I have a problem with this. I cannot believe that a childs behavioral problems and history does not go in his/her chart to warn the the innocent, they rather just pass it on and hope that someone else will deal with it. If these bullies really are victims too, then deal with them. They are the ones who are lacking discipline,They need the help and to allow them to bully others and get away with it is a huge injustice to them as well. Somebody really needs to step to the plate and help us all. The innocent kids need to feel that they are safe around their school inviroment, and through experience they don't need to feel like they no longer enjoy going to school. Zero tolerance Code Of Conduct those not protect the innocent. Time to help the problem kids. Not the Kids who lives are in harms way by these bullies. Innocent kids cood only tolerate so much, when they explode then they had enough!!! and school superior are not listening to the real issues.

all of this bullying is totally out of control as we all know. my son is entering kindergarten in september and i am worried sick about this....my husband and I always believed that we should teach our son to walk away, well, guess what, the last year or so, we have taught him, thanks to all the bullying and the stories you hear...that when someone hits him, he needs to hit them right back! My husband and I will NOT allow our son to walk away, or cry (which is what he does).....this may sound harsh, but, we have no other choice, if we want our son to be safe in his school. We teach our son manners, respect and how to be a good boy, BUT, when he is being disrespected and treated like crap, he MUST stick up for himself, and not back down. We also feel like the minute anything happens right to the principal we go, and, to the school district and if this gets us nowhere, well, then we go to the police department. And, we will have to speak to the parent of the bully. This is all whether or not we are faced with this...but this is our plan. My husband was a product of being bullied and he and I do not want our son going through what he went through....society is spinning out of control and unfortunately, it begins in the home.

hey, recently read your comments on bullying in the schools. I have 2 children in the district and forget Hawkins,, the people that are in there still do not do anything. My child is repeatedly picked on and hit and nothing gets done. The children are spoken to and sent back to class. Lets face it is our job to parent, and the schools job to teach, but our children are in their care for 6-8 hours a day. Where is their protection?? my child is in 5th grade and is a typical kid, however the kids that in 5th grade are not typical. They are rude and crude, so forget me teaching my child right from wrong, I am going to teach him to kick ass and kick it good!!! Fed up in Shirley

I applied to that district from North Carolina (orginally from LI) I am a Special Ed tecaher. Floyd was my last choice-I will not even consider the offer if I get it . No offense to others but I am a teacher who has dealt with some really violent kids (I don't teach Ed emotionally disturbance, anymore) . As much as I want to get out off the south (asap)I would NOT consider admininstration that: 1. allows admin to turn their backs on the needs of students and teachers 2. allow kids to STAY in public school who belong in a special school (who offer Intervention plans)(Trust me I have been to court over this) 3.Have admin realize that the classroom in NOT a wrestling ring 4. All special ed teachers ADVIICE-make sure you have support ESPECIALLy an attorney and the HEAD of your dept And if anymore knows any schools looking for Special ed teachers who teach Autism and ABA (ME!) please reply Good Luck Nancy

Sorry to hear about your problem with bullying. Just want you to know your not alone. My children belong to the Babylon School District. Both my son and my daughter were bullied in elementary school. I am now fighting to have my daughters bully suspended, but was told that even though my daughter came home with scratches covered by bandaids given to her by the school nurse, it would be my daughters word against hers.
