Bay Shore UFSD food service department requests $ 30.00 for 20 X Lunches and $20.00 for school breakfasts? So not only do I pay for LI Schools in my property taxes I get squeezed for every kid? $50.00 a month $ 500.00 a year per kid x 2 is $1.000.00 YEARLY   that could go to a college education 529 plan? But If I am illegal my kids get free meals on the tax payer...........  This is horrible. Anyone who pays taxes here could use a break ....  Always a deal made so someone gets paid off .....................

everyone has to pay for the breakfast & lunch???  I've never heard of that before.  It is generally voluntary - if you want your child to have hot lunch you send in money for their account.   Our school district WB voted to do away with breakfast so we dont have that issue.

Have you gone to a School Board Meeting and brought the issue up on the floor --- yes, they are generally fairly long meetings, and can get a bit dry or boring at times, but if you have a complaint, and want something changed, that is where you must go.  A letter to the Superintendent helps to get the ball rolling too -- just make sure the letter is facts only...save the emotions for later....and either discuss the high cost of the meals, OR the problem with funding illegals -- if you try to lump them both together you will just be blamed a racist and overlooked  - stick to the fact that the cost of the meals is excessive and why isnt it covered in taxes and or other budgeted funds.

good luck.

$30.00 for 20 lunches is $1.50 per day.  I pack my sons lunch and the average cost is between $4-$5.  Sounds like your getting a bargain in addition to a balanced meal for your kids.  In addition the school year is only 10 months so your cost per child is $300 for lunch.  The breakfast program was introduced by the state to try and make it possible that all students get a healthy, nutricious breakfast before beginning their school day.  It is very helpful for working parents and completely voluntary.
Also, if you do have an issue you should be familiar with the chain of command.  Questions should go first to the teacher and then principal.  If unresolved the principal has an obligation to inform central administration.  If unresolved at that level it then goes before the Board of Ed.
Hope this helps.
